Residence permit
Residence Permit in Georgia: the ground that actually passes, carried through to the card
A year without a visa is convenient, but it is not permanent. A residence permit brings stability in Georgia (the country): banking, leases, school places, tax residency. Four grounds, four prices, one principle — we tell you the odds before filing, not after a refusal.
Who it's for
Four grounds — which one fits you
This fits if
- Through an IE: your IE (Individual Entrepreneur) is registered with real turnover at or above the set threshold
- Through property: you own property in Georgia with a market value of $100,000 or more by official appraisal
- Family reunification: your spouse, parent or child already holds Georgian residency or citizenship
- Through employment: you have a contract with a Georgian employer and confirmed income
A different route fits better
- The IE was opened last week with no turnover — build the history first, then file
- The property is below the threshold, or it is not registered in your name
- "I live here and spend money" — Georgia has no residence permit on that ground
On the free assessment we say it plainly: your case passes, or it does not, and here is what would make it pass. A refusal costs you the state fee and a month. We do not file on hope.
How it works
The route to the card: from assessment to renewal
Assessment and choice of ground
We read the documents, check the turnover or property value and weigh the odds. The ground is chosen and the quote fixed in writing.
File and address registration
We collect the documents, arrange translations and register your address for a year — the application is not accepted without it.
Filing and biometrics
We go with you to the Public Service Hall: submission, photo, fingerprints. Then we answer the authority's follow-up queries.
Card and calendar
After 30 days, or 10 if expedited, we collect the decision and the card, and set a reminder two months before expiry.
Documents
Documents for each ground
- For everyone: passport, photo, address registration in Georgia, state fee receipt
- Through an IE: the registration extract, a Revenue Service turnover statement, bank statements
- Through property: the registry extract confirming ownership and an appraisal report (we arrange it, 500 ₾)
- Family reunification: marriage or birth certificate with apostille and translation, plus the family member's documents
- Through employment: the employment contract, salary confirmation, employer documents
Price
Price: 700 to 900 ₾ for the support
The price depends on the ground. State fees, the appraisal and address registration are separate lines.

Rarely said out loud
Why applications are refused and how to avoid it
The first permit is usually issued for a year. Renewal follows if the ground still holds: the IE has to genuinely trade, the property to stay in your name.
The authority looks at substance, not paper. An IE whose turnover appeared a week before filing raises questions. We advise filing when the history reads like a business, not a preparation.
Address registration is mandatory: without it the documents are not accepted. With no lease in your own name, we arrange temporary registration for a year at 600 ₾.
A residence permit does not make you a tax resident. Tax residency follows 183 days in a year. What that does to your tax bill is in the tax guide.
Questions
Common questions about residency in Georgia
The standard term is 30 days; expedited options are 20 or 10 at a higher state fee. Those are the authority's timelines — we cannot change them, but we file so no follow-up queries arise.
Yes, if the market value by official appraisal is $100,000 or more and the property is in your name. We arrange the appraisal for 500 ₾.
The threshold is set in law and revised periodically. On the assessment we give the current figure and check whether your turnover reaches it, or how many months of history you still need.
There is no formal day count, but the ground has to survive: the IE trading, the property owned, the marriage in force.
No. Biometrics are taken at filing. The whole file can be prepared before you arrive, reducing the trip to a single visit.
Accounts open more easily, leases and school admissions stop being a conversation, you get a Georgian ID card and stop counting visa-free days. After several years it is a route to permanent residency.
