Work Permit in Georgia: we check whether you need one, then file it for 350 ₾

Foreigners without permanent residency who work with Georgian residents need a work permit. In Georgia (the country) applications go through the labour-migration portal, the rule is recent, the wording leaves room for reading, and the penalties are already in force. Below: who is covered, who is not, and what filing actually takes.

350 ₾ 10–30 days filed via the labour-migration portal bundled with an IE or an LLC in one quote

Who it's for

Who needs a permit — and who only thinks they do

This fits if

  • You are a foreigner without permanent residency, employed by a Georgian company
  • You are the director or an employee of your own Georgian LLC
  • You are registered as an IE (Individual Entrepreneur) and invoice Georgian clients
  • You provide services inside Georgia and are paid by local residents

A different route fits better

  • Your clients and employer are outside Georgia and you simply live here — a permit is usually not required
  • You hold permanent residency — the requirement does not apply to you
  • You are a Georgian citizen or hold a status treated as equivalent to residency

The line between "remote work for foreign clients" and "work with residents" is drawn by facts: who pays you, where the contract is signed, who the invoice is addressed to. We read your actual contracts on the free assessment, before you pay anything.

How it works

Four steps: from the eligibility check to the permit in hand

Step 01

Eligibility check

Half an hour to establish whether your activity falls under the rule. If it does not, we say so and you pay nothing.

Step 02

Grounds and documents

We assemble the grounds: an employment contract, an IE extract or the resolution appointing you director. Translations and the application are on us.

Step 03

Filing and follow-up

We file through the labour-migration portal, answer the authority's queries and keep you posted in the messenger you already use.

Step 04

Permit issued

In 10 to 30 days you have the permit, and we have a calendar reminder set for its renewal date.

Documents

What we need from you

  • Passport and your current legal basis for staying in Georgia (visa-free entry or a residence permit)
  • Grounds for the work: employment contract, IE registration extract, or the resolution appointing you director
  • Details of the employer, or of your own IE or LLC
  • A photo and contact details for the application
  • Your address in Georgia
Translations and certifications are handled by us. If you are registering an IE or an LLC at the same time, the permit goes into the same quote: the grounds exist from the day of registration, so there is nothing to wait for.

Price

Price: 350 ₾ for the filing

The state fee is paid separately against a receipt and appears as its own line in the quote.

Rarely said out loud

Four things the forums leave out

"Remote" is about your clients, not your laptop. Working from Georgia for a foreign company is one thing; invoicing even a single Georgian client is another. The second can require a permit even if you never leave your desk.

A work permit is not a residence permit, and the reverse holds too. Two documents, two timelines: the permit covers the right to work, residency covers the right to live here. Most people need both, and filing them together saves a round of paperwork.

Penalties reach both sides. The worker and the Georgian employer can each be fined, and a missing permit resurfaces when you apply for residency. Filing for 350 ₾ is the cheaper end of that arithmetic.

The rule is new and practice is still settling. We follow the clarifications as they are published and update this page. Last reviewed 4 September 2026.

Questions

Common questions about the work permit

Usually not: the requirement targets work with Georgian residents. Add one Georgian company to your client list and the answer changes. We check against your actual contracts on the assessment.

The authority takes 10 to 30 days. The range depends on its workload and on how complete your file is. We cannot shorten it, but we file so that no follow-up queries are needed.

An employment contract with a Georgian employer works as grounds on its own. If you work for yourself, IE registration becomes the grounds, and that takes 1–2 business days.

Fines are set for both the worker and the employer, and a missing permit can complicate a later residence permit application. Filing is the cheaper option.

Yes. It runs for a term tied to its grounds. We remind you ahead of the date and refile while the grounds still hold.

The check and the document preparation, yes. The filing itself usually needs you or a power of attorney; we pick the route that fits your case.
