Bank account
Bank Account in Georgia for Foreigners: a compliance file, an interpreter and a second bank in reserve
Banks in Georgia (the country) do open accounts for foreigners, but they review each applicant individually. What decides it is not your passport or your balance — it is a coherent story: where the money comes from, what you do, why you need the account. We put that story into a file, book the right branch and walk in with you.
Who it's for
Which format fits you
This fits if
- With escort: you are in Georgia or flying in — we go to the bank together with an interpreter, and you leave with cards and online banking from the same visit
- Remotely: you have not arrived yet — we open by notarised power of attorney, at one of the banks that accept a power of attorney
- For an IE or an LLC: the business account is opened alongside the registration
A different route fits better
- You cannot document where your funds come from — the bank will decline, and we will say so in advance
- You expect a guarantee: no intermediary can give one, the decision belongs to the bank
- You want an account for "crypto withdrawals, no questions asked" — Georgian banks do not sign up for that
That is why the price includes a reserve bank: if the first one declines, we go to the next on the file already assembled, with nothing more to pay.
How it works
How the account opens: four steps and one meeting
The compliance file
We gather documents on the source of your funds and on your work: contracts, statements, the IE registration. Translations included. This is 80% of the outcome.
Choosing the bank and booking
We match a bank and a branch to your profile, where foreigners are handled calmly, and book a specific time slot.
The meeting
We come with an interpreter. The compliance questionnaire is filled in correctly the first time, which is the single biggest source of refusals for people who go alone.
Cards and online banking
A multi-currency account, cards and the app — usually from the same visit, or within 1–2 weeks if the bank takes time to review.
Documents
What the bank asks a foreigner for
- Passport
- Proof of address in Georgia or in your country of residence
- A Georgian phone number
- Proof of activity and income: contracts, invoices, statements, an employer letter
- For a business account: the IE or LLC registration extract and the tax number
- For the remote format: a notarised power of attorney on our template

Rarely said out loud
Why foreigners get declined and what to do about it
A refusal is almost always about the questionnaire, not about you. "Source of income: various", "purpose of the account: personal" — that is half the declines. A questionnaire filled in properly, with a document behind every line, changes the outcome.
Banks like legible profiles. An IE with a registered status and real contracts opens an account more easily than someone who simply lives here. Which is why registering the IE first is often the shorter path.
An account can be closed later. Sudden transfers without documents, incoming payments from unknown counterparties: all reasons for a review. We explain how to run the account so it is left alone.
Citizenship affects the checks. For nationals of some countries the review is stricter and slower. That is not a ban, but the file has to be stronger, and we build it accordingly.
Questions
Common questions about accounts in Georgia
Yes, on your passport under visa-free entry. Residency makes the review simpler but is not required.
With escort, often from the same visit; sometimes the bank takes 1–2 weeks to review. Remotely, up to 2–3 weeks including the time the power of attorney spends in transit.
A multi-currency account: lari, dollars and euro. Cards are Visa or Mastercard and work abroad and with online services.
We go to the reserve bank on the file already assembled, with nothing more to pay. If two banks decline for an objective reason, we tell you honestly what has to change.
Yes, alongside the company registration. For a business account the bank looks at the founders and the activity, so the file is built for that.
In the escort format, yes: one meeting. In the remote format, no — a notarised power of attorney on our template is enough.
