Marriage in Georgia for Foreigners: registered in days, without citizenship or residency
Georgia (the country) is one of the few places where two foreigners can marry quickly and officially: no waiting period, no residence requirement, and a certificate that is recognised back home. We check the papers, translate them, book the Public Service Hall, and bring the witnesses and the interpreter.
Who it's for
Who marrying in Georgia is for
This fits if
- You are from different countries and marrying at home is complicated by visas or paperwork
- You need a fast official marriage with an internationally recognised certificate
- One of you is a Georgian citizen or resident
- You want a real ceremony in Tbilisi or out in the country, with an actual registrar
A different route fits better
- One of you is still married — the divorce comes first
- You have no document confirming marital status and your country issues one — you will need to obtain it
- You expect the marriage itself to grant residency — it creates the grounds, not the permit
Document requirements depend on your country: which certificates are needed, what has to carry an apostille. We work that out on the free assessment so you arrive with the right file.
How it works
How registration runs: from documents to certificate
Document check
We look at the passports and the marital-status certificates and tell you what has to be certified and translated. Most of it can be prepared before you fly.
Translations and booking
We make the notarised Georgian translations and book you into the Public Service Hall on a date that suits you.
Registration
We come together: the two witnesses and the interpreter are ours. The procedure itself takes about half an hour.
Certificate and legalisation
You receive the marriage certificate. We explain how to legalise it for your country — the apostille is issued in Georgia.
Documents
Documents for a marriage between foreigners
- Passports of both parties
- Proof of marital status: a certificate of no impediment, a divorce certificate or a death certificate — apostilled or legalised according to your country's rules
- Notarised Georgian translations — these are handled by us
- Two witnesses — we provide them if you are travelling as a couple
- For an on-site ceremony: an agreed date and venue

Rarely said out loud
What matters before you file
Recognition at home depends on your country. Most countries accept a Georgian certificate once it carries an apostille. A few require consular legalisation, and we check yours in advance.
Marrying a Georgian citizen does not grant residency automatically. It creates the grounds for a residence permit through family reunification — a separate procedure, 700 ₾ for the support.
Documents expire. Marital-status certificates are usually valid for a limited period. We plan the dates so that everything is still current on the day of registration.
Divorce is available to foreigners too. By mutual consent it is quick, through the Public Service Hall. Where there is a dispute or there are minor children, it goes to court.
