What you should know
The obligation applies from 1 March 2026: a permit is needed by foreigners who work with Georgian residents — as employees or as IEs (Individual Entrepreneurs). Remote work for a foreign employer was carved out of the requirement on 15 April 2026; for IEs who need a residence permit there is a proviso in Decree No. 321 — we check such cases individually, against your contracts.
The state duty is 200 ₾ for review in 30 calendar days or 400 ₾ for 10 business days; renewal is 200 ₾ — paid against a receipt. A self-employed applicant files in person through the labourmigration.moh.gov.ge portal and passes a video interview in Georgian or English; filing by power of attorney is not provided for. We prepare the documents and get you ready for the interview.
A permanent residence permit exempts you from the requirement; an ordinary one does not. The fine for working without a permit is 2,000 ₾, and 4,000 ₾ for a repeat violation. If your contracts show that no permit is required, we say so plainly at the consultation — you pay neither our fee nor the duty.
Common situations
An IE invoices Georgian clients. The permit is required: we prepare the documents and the video-interview preparation; the duty is 200 ₾, review takes up to 30 days.
A developer works remotely for an EU company. Since 15 April 2026 such work is carved out of the requirement — we check the contracts and give you the conclusion in writing.
The director of his own small company in Georgia (the country). There is no carve-out for category IV enterprises — we obtain the permit: 350 ₾ plus the duty against a receipt.

Once the right to work is granted, the employment residence permit application follows: within 10 calendar days if you are in Georgia, or within 30 days on a D1 visa if you are abroad.
